Overview
Chip ("we", "our", or "us") is a bill-splitting app built for iPhone. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Information We Collect
- Account information — your display name and Apple ID (via Sign in with Apple)
- Payment handles — Venmo username, CashApp tag, Zelle phone number (optional)
- Expense data — group names, expense amounts, split information
- Receipt images — processed by OpenAI GPT-4o for item extraction (not stored permanently)
- Profile photo — stored in Firebase Storage if you choose to add one
- Device data — crash reports and performance data via Firebase
How We Use Your Information
- To provide bill-splitting functionality across your groups
- To sync your data across devices via Firebase
- To process AI receipt scanning via OpenAI
- To manage your subscription via RevenueCat
- To send push notifications about group activity
- To improve app performance and fix bugs
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:
- Firebase (Google) — authentication, database, storage, and crash reporting
- OpenAI — receipt image processing only (images are not stored)
- RevenueCat — subscription management
Data Retention
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes all your data from our servers.
Your Rights
- Access your data at any time within the app
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Request a copy of your data by emailing us
- Opt out of push notifications in iOS Settings
Security
We use industry-standard security measures including Firebase Authentication, encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), and secure cloud storage. We never store payment card information.
Children's Privacy
Chip is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or by email. Continued use of Chip after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
